Food alone is reason enough to visit the Southwest of France. The region is known for its foie gras, truffles, Magret de canard, and pruneaux d'Agen . Organic, sustainable family farms are thriving, and offer their heirloom tomatoes, cheeses, cherries, plums, walnuts, and other foods at open-air markets. Mara des bois, a strawberry variety that bursts in flavor similar to its wild counterpart, originated in the Dordogne region.

And of course, the region is heaven for wine lovers. Cahors, where some of the oldest vineyards in the world are still producing their unique wines, is just a 15-minute drive from Pech Gris. Monbazillac, with its gorgeous hilltop castle, is famous for its vin blanc moëlleux (sweet white wine), delicious with desserts or with foie gras .
The world-renowned Bordeaux region is just 2 hours northwest of Pech Gris. Some vineyards in the region are perhaps not as well known as Bordeaux, but produce excellent wines, such as Gaillac, Buzet, and Duras. Several wineries grow their grapes using organic methods. The owners of smaller wineries will invite you into their living room or on the deck overlooking the vineyards to taste their wine. Slow food is the rule in Aquitaine. You will find a variety of restaurants and cafés serving these regional specialties.
